Rose Kapp (aka Roszay) is a visual artist, cartoonist, and creative force who got her start documenting the raw energy of Edmonton’s punk scene in the late 1970s and early '80s. Armed with her camera, Roszay captured the grit, spirit, and DIY ethos of a scene in full swing.
A lot of the individuals were amalgamations of different bands, especially JC & the Believers - Moe Berg, Bob Drysdale (Modern Minds), Jerry Jerry, etc. A number of other bands from Vancouver and Edmonton. This is a hodgepodge of assorted musicians from Western Canada/Edmonton and we welcome comments or clarifications.
Now based in Coquitlam, B.C., Rose brings that same creative spark to her whimsical watercolour illustrations of homes, businesses, and festivals, as well as her popular Wednesday Smile bird cartoons. A champion of local art, she’s the founder of Creative People Talking and plays an active role in the Tri-Cities art community through initiatives like Art Shuffle Port Moody and ArtsConnect.
Roszay may have traded pogo pits for paintbrushes, but her punk roots still shape the bold, playful heart of everything she creates.
