Information/Write-up
Les Breastfeeders’ latest adventure takes place in La ville engloutie (The Sunken City). At times tinged with garage, psychedelic, post-sixties-punk, and psych-folk, each episode takes us into different rhythmic and stylistic universes, maintaining a narrative where each song from the album can become a neighborhood, a street, an alley, a door, a room, a person.
Les Breastfeeders Release La ville engloutie, Their First Album in 12 Years
The latest adventure from Les Breastfeeders unfolds in La ville engloutie. Each track, infused at times with garage rock, psychedelia, post-sixties punk, and psych-folk, takes listeners through a variety of rhythmic and stylistic landscapes, maintaining a narrative thread where every song becomes a neighborhood, a street, an alley, a door, a room, or even a person.
Lyricists Luc Brien and Johnny Maldoror paint a vivid picture of this world—one thrown into chaos by the Corsaires Satan, where love clings stubbornly to the edges, and where our lives are transformed through the power of words, elevating personal experiences into shared human adventures. Step into La ville engloutie and wander through its many corners, detours, and dead ends, where no two people are ever quite the same.
For their first full-length album in 12 years, Les Breastfeeders teamed up with longtime friend and collaborator Ryan Battistuzzi (Nobro, Les Shirley, Sheenah Ko), who co-produced the record with them. Mark Lawson (Peter Gabriel, Zoon, Basia Bulat) handled the mixing, while Richard Addison took care of the mastering.
Among the notable collaborations, Suzie McLelove delivers Aujourd’hui ou demain, the album’s closing track. Keyboard contributions come from Thomas Augustin (Malajube, Jesuslesfilles, Penny Diving) and Étienne Barry (Les Deuxluxes, BPR, Orkestar Kriminal), enriching the album with a wide range of sounds, from organ and Mellotron to piano, Wurlitzer, and Rhodes. The celestial backing vocals of Anna Frances Meyer (Les Deuxluxes, BPR) add yet another layer of depth.
The album launch show will take place on November 23 at Théâtre Fairmount in Montreal as part of M for Montreal, with additional tour dates across Quebec in 2025. Check out the schedule below for more details and grab your tickets for the launch here.
