Information/Write-up

Organisation C was a short-lived but unforgettable Canadian project that emerged at the crossroads of funk, pop, and disco in the late 1970s. Formed in Montreal and led by multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer Claude Blouin, the group released just one album — Viens Tourner (1978) — a private-press gem that has since become a cult favorite among disco-funk collectors and connoisseurs of Quebec’s underground music scene.

At the heart of Organisation C was an ensemble of skilled performers: Johanne Blouin (later of Starmania fame), Céline Chaput, Claude Robillard, and François Clément. Together, they delivered a sound that was both sophisticated and vibrant — a blend of lush orchestration, infectious rhythms, and theatrical flair. The band’s music ranged from smooth, string-laced ballads to high-energy disco-funk with bold brass arrangements and polished grooves.

Standout tracks like “Viens Tourner”, “Tout Ce Que Tu Es Pour Moi”, and the cinematic “Yukön” showcase Blouin’s meticulous production style and deep musicality. The album fuses French-language songwriting with rich, danceable arrangements, elevating it far beyond typical disco fare. Despite its limited release on Blouin’s own Clau-Ver label, Viens Tourner earned acclaim for its live performances, which combined choreography, vibrant staging, and tight musicianship.

Behind the scenes, Claude Blouin brought decades of experience to the project. A veteran trombonist, he had performed with legends such as Michel Legrand, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, and Harry Belafonte. With Organisation C, he shifted from sideman to bandleader, creating a platform for emerging voices and showcasing his talents as a composer, arranger, and producer.

Today, Viens Tourner stands as a rare artifact of Canada’s deep disco era — a reflection of the province’s bold artistic vision during a time of musical exploration. Its grooves remain timeless, its melodies still surprising, and its legacy more appreciated than ever.
