Information/Write-up

Jimmy Namaro is one of Canada's finest percussionists. Alongside Peter Appleyard, Frank Wright, Yvan Landry, Paul Hoffert, Hagood Hardy and many more, Jimmy helped shaped the percussive sound of Canadian Jazz.

Jimmy [James] Namaro was born on the 14th of April 1913. There is some debate over where in fact he was born, with the two competing places of origin being La Rosita, Mexico and Columbus, Michigan.

Shortly after he turned eight in 1921, Jimmy and his family moved to Hamilton, Ontario. While here, he studied piano with the great Sid Walling and Eric Lewis.
He released numerous albums and a few singles under "Jimmy Namaro" and "The Jimmy Namaro Trio." For nearly fifteen years Jimmy was supported by the same rhythm section; bassist Lin Boyd and drummer Gord Carley.
