Information/Write-up

Mike Ford’s highly acclaimed and Juno-nominated album Canada Needs You is filled with provocative and original work as rich and diverse as our Nation. This album is THE Canadiana album of the decade with Tim Hus’s Huskies & Huskvarnas a close second. Other Tim Hus and Mike Ford releases would round out the top 5. Little wonder this album made the CKUA (best radio station in Canada) top 100 albums of 2005.

But this is no surprise, Mike Ford has been doing this since 1989 when he was teamed up with Murray Foster and Dave Matheson who together released 8 albums as the band Moxy Fruvous, one of Canada’s more famous folk/comedy groups of the day.

These 12 compositions are of historical and cultural significance. But more importantly, they are thoroughly enjoyable right the way through. From the rock anthem “Sir John A (You’re O.K.), to the Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont rhythmic ballad “Louis and Gabriel”; closing out with the Canadian geography tribute extravaganza “I’ve Been Everywhere”. These compositions will fit in nicely with any Canadian history class curriculum and are well suited for children of any age, but the music is sure to please historians of all ages.
