Information/Write-up

Square' is a truly incredible piece of work from the pioneering producer/MC, Buck 65. On the surface of it only four tracks long, in fact each track is over 13 minutes, with each flowing between distinct songs within the track, fitting together beautifully. Imagine DJ Shadow with full rapping and you're not even quite there. Intelligent lyrics, excellent production and an incredible scope of ambition make this a tremendous fusion of hip-hop, electronica, acoustica and indie.

There is a slightly crackly feel to the sound which adds to its classic feel. Some of the music is really moving and quite sad, as there are gorgeous piano lines, frazzled beats and evocative lyrics on many sections. There's a wide range of subject matter, from broken families to modern sexual culture to a quirky section describing his favourite types of food. It really is the greatest album of the 21st century so far - tremedously innovative, it just has everything. If you don't have it, you need it.

Square is an album by Buck 65. Though it consists of four tracks, each track consists of multiple songs.

This album was nominated for a 2003 Juno Award for Alternative Album Of The Year.
