Cree Songbook

Cree Songbook brings together Cree voices from across Canada, tracing a wide musical continuum that moves between traditional chant, fiddle and country song, folk, rock, hip-hop, and contemporary pow-wow-influenced sounds. Drawn from communities including Beardy’s First Nation, Maskwacis, Mistissini, Sandy Lake, Saddle Lake, Hobemma, and North Battleford, the playlist reflects both the deep-rooted ceremonial traditions and the evolving creative expressions of Cree artists working across generations and genres. From field recordings and drum songs to classic country, socially conscious songwriting, and modern Indigenous hip-hop, Cree Songbook documents music as living culture—rooted in land, language, memory, and community, while continually finding new forms of expression.
