Information/Write-up

Sweet Exctasy was a family band with tons of talent. They were from Trinidad originally but grew up in the Toronto Ontario area. When I met them we began to form a loosely knit culture mixing our experiences with an original approach. I am Angelo Petraglia, I co-wrote the song with the groups mentor Carl Otway and Carl Harvey. Back then in 1982-83 It was very difficult to get dance oriented music taken seriously here in Toronto. These days its easy. The song really helped the band spread out and travel far and wide. Yes the Johnson Family was on the map. After much acclaim, the song won the Best Funk Single at the Canadian Black Music Awards in 1983. Shortly thereafter Debbie Johnson went solo and had a hit with a song she wrote called "Mama said why" In 1992 an American artist named Pandella added her name to ours as a co-writer of the song and did her own version. It was produced by one Vincent DiGiorgio whom at the time was an A & R guy at BMG. It has been on many compilations and continues to be heard to this day.

Produced by Carl Harvey and Carl Otway
Mixed by Jeff Henbrickson and Larry Alexander
Recorded at Marigold Studios
