Information/Write-up

Quebec-Atikamekw artist Laura Niquay has returned with her latest record, Waska Matisiwin.

Six years since the release of her debut album, Waratanak, Laura has continued to evolve as an artist. Waska Matisiwin finds Laura highlighting her Indigenous heritage and singular voice, exploring an indie-folk sound that draws inspiration from grungy alt-rock.

Singing in her native language of Atikamekw, she channels her roots across these 12 tracks, setting herself apart from her folk music contemporaries.

The album includes collaborations from Shauit, Anachnid, Eadsé, RedTail Spirit Singers, Gotta Lago, Kanen, Tee Cloud and Soleil Launière. It's being released through Musique Nomade.
