Information/Write-up

Dec 5, 2023 - Brothers Bogaardt present their killer underground album available exclusively here at citizenfreak.com.

'Streaker Joe' is a psychedelic song about a fellow from Smokey Lake, Alberta. I asked Bill to shed some light on this track since it's clearly a song so good they did an instrumental version on the B side: "I wrote the words and music, in the days that “Streaking” was so popular, and we wanted to come out with a song, which had  a “tongue in cheek” approach. I remember vividly that we recorded this song at the Tommy Banks recording studio in Stony Plain road, and we had about a half hour to finish it completely, because we were actually there to record a soundtrack for another film documentary called “Time of the Tarsands”. I also wrote the words and music for that documentary. But we completed “Streaker Joe” in about 3 takes, and my younger brother Archie, did an outstanding job of nailing the vocals, and in the ending we were just ad-libbing words that were suggestive, but not offensive. Another brilliantly captured “moment “ in the song was the guitar solo, that our guitarist Cal Poole created that was done in 2 takes. If a person listens to the guitar solo, you’ll notice that the guitar solo has a “run”, which is incredibly fast, and I always considered this run a remarkable achievement, by our guitarist Cal, especially since it was done in just two takes."

Their songs were featured in a documentary film which won the Gold Camera award in Chicago, Illinois in the 70's. Bill also received an award for his musical compositions for the Syncrude film "Time of the Tarsands", with Canadian actor, Gordon Pinsent. This album features on of those tracks that appeared in the documentary: 'Sands of Time'. 'Summerwind Song' is an adaption from the Alberta Government Documentary "Alberta On The Northside".

Brothers Bogaardt have been inducted into the Edmonton Music Legends Hall of Fame.
