Every bit of Howard Cable’s renowned musicianship shows in the spirited arrangements on this transcription. Whether sailing into the liveliest contemporary show tune like “Henry Street” from FUNNY GIRL, or “A Spoonful of Sugar” from MARY POPPINS—or entertaining with a diverting and original treatment of a novelty tune, such as “Le Fiacre” with its clip-clopping of hoofs and “Three Candy Cornets” (his own composition), Howard Cable’s brilliant individual touch remains in evidence. It’s a distinctive sound which has enlivened many a Canadian radio and television show—and every Canadian listener and viewer would have his own favourite from the formidable list.
