Information/Write-up

Gina was born Georgina Katherine May Prozeniuk, the daughter of a Ukrainian coalminer in Rosedale, Alberta in the Drumheller Valley. She had one older brother and three sisters.
Her sister Margret once told me of the time that the two of them made up a story to tell their mother about going to Calgary to see a family friend so that they could also see the Everly Brothers. Gina often played with Gary Fjellgaard and she played a Hoffner 6 string acoustic guitar, which Gary had given her.

After high school she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Gina changed her last name to be a “stage name” by utilizing her third name, May.

Gina lived with us for a short time in Salmon Arm in the early 60’s before moving to Victoria in the mid / late 60’s before she came to Prince George (where we moved to from Salmon Arm) to live with us for a while. After that she moved to Vancouver and had an apartment in the West end where as a student at UBC I would drop in for a visit every month.
I would have to say that she spent most of her time there.

Gina died January 16, 1996 in Calgary at the age of 59.

The attached photo is with her mother, brother and three sisters. Gina is top row second from the right.
