Information/Write-up
Released in 1967 on Excellent Records, I Forgot to Remember to Forget / Walk On By finds Ted Daigle paying tribute to two iconic country songs, bringing his smooth, baritone delivery and classic honky-tonk styling to the mix. With The Musicmen providing tight, polished instrumentation, this single represents Daigle’s continued evolution into a full-fledged country star.
On the A-side, "I Forgot to Remember to Forget," Daigle takes on the Elvis Presley classic, first recorded at Sun Records in 1955. While Presley’s version leaned into rockabilly, Daigle’s interpretation brings it fully into traditional country, with Al Gain’s steel guitar adding a wistful, melancholic touch. His measured, heartfelt phrasing makes this version distinctly his own, showing off his ability to blend classic influences with his signature Canadian country sound.
The B-side, "Walk On By," originally made famous by Leroy Van Dyke, is a perfect showcase of Daigle’s honky-tonk style. Featuring Gil Glazier’s crisp guitar licks, Rheo Pilon’s walking bassline, and Byron Stever’s steady shuffle beat, the song carries the easy-going, barroom feel that made it such a hit in country circles.
Though not as widely known as his RCA recordings, I Forgot to Remember to Forget / Walk On By is an essential piece of Ted Daigle’s country catalog, capturing his talent for reinterpreting country classics while maintaining his own unique identity. With only a limited pressing on Excellent Records, this single remains a highly collectible piece of 1960s Canadian country music history.
