Brent's first album, released in 1977, was critically acclaimed in Canada, Europe and Japan. With a resonant and open sound, this album pairs Brent's voice and guitar with deceptively simple but impeccably chosen accompaniment. Instruments ranging from a distantly echoing electric guitar, vibe-like keyboards, jaw harp, and even a wine glass create a spell-binding sonic texture. Two of Brent's compositions, "Sing High, Sing Low" and "I Wish The Very Best For You" went on to be recorded by Anne Murray.

In an era when recording artists who didn't fit the mainstream labels were searching for financial independence, Brent's album was one of the first independently produced records in Canada partially financed by pre-subscription. Even now Brent's voice conveys an amazed enthusiasm as he remembers. "We raised $2500 in advance sales, preselling the albums at $5.00 each, plus 50 cents for handling. I still have the original letter we sent out!"

Recorded at Eastern Sound, then one of Canada's foremost studios, the album drew on the talents of some of the country's top players. Amongst these were guitarist Bob Mann, who went on to tour and record with James Taylor, Tom Szezesniak on bass and keyboards, who became an award winning composer of music for TV, and Barry Keene, Gordon Lightfoot's regular drummer.
