Information/Write-up
The CD debut of Jackie Richardson is an experience of soul, a profoundly personal synthesis of the remarkable gospel, blues and jazz women she has embodied on stage and screen.
It is also a portrait of self; not the showcase of a showboat but a demonstration of songmanship in the service of spirit. Her musical discoveries are in the moment, introspective. Fans of her vitality and virtuosity won't be disappointed, but the essence is intimacy expressed in a voice of vintage cognac and extended instrumentally by smoking combos of empaths. She is in love with love, she finds, and her songs are evocative and demonstrative of many kinds of love. She is parent, she is child, she is friend, she is lover... but even when she chooses to believe in the lies of handsome men, the love is in herself, and in each of us who attend her.
The result is a thoughtful suite of sweet feeling; greatness of yearning, richness of satisfaction, a new beginning for a veteran with the courage to be vulnerable and the wisdom to be innocent once more.
