Information/Write-up
eing born in a family with plenty of musical background was a lucky break for KEITH POTTS, as he was raised to do just that well. His father, John, had been gone about ten times fiddler from Arkansas and his mother came from Texas. Both had good singing voices, and many times in the evening, through the summer months, neighbors from all around would gather for round singing songs.
Keith was born on May 28, 1925, in the farming village of Millet in Southern Alberta. Being one of the ten sons and daughters, he absorbed whatever talent he could from the others. The family moved to Munsom, Alberta when Keith was three, and later to Mossleigh, and on to Nanton, where he still resides.
As a boy of sixteen, he first made a start as a stage musician with a traveling tent show, and in the beginning of Keith’s own entertainment career, his three brothers formed a trio, his brother Ken, traveling to many towns to sing in public functions. The highlight of this time was a traveling tent show with Ken, performed just like a vaudeville show.
In 1948, Keith formed a singing trio with Ken and an older brother Vern, forming a trio that was later to be called the Keynotes, working on the Dinner Bell Show over Radio Station CFCN for over a year.
Keith has always had a great flair for composing songs, which began when he was 18 years old and one of the songs, POT OF GOLD, received its BMI Award in 1965. It was this very same number, and the corresponding name of his heartfelt title, BLUE DAY, that gave Keith the urge to become more public and professional in his love of music and country family-style.
Keith’s stories live on in this album with his wife Gay, and his three talented children, Georgia Ann (age 10), Gary (age 8), and Gaye (age 5). All of them are fine singers, and the talent that Keith and Gaye are bringing into their home will be heard for many generations.
Keith now resides on Vancouver Island and performs two or three times a week with a wonderful musical group called The Fabulous Gamblers to capacity crowds.
