Information/Write-up

Next was Moxy II which found the band stretching out into tracks with more layering, more hooks, bigtime production through Ed Leonetti and Jack Douglas, bigger stakes. Moxy II turned out to be a watered down version of the band's burning metal vision, something which would get fixed but good come 1977 classic Ridin' High.

"The second one, management and the label wanted to change us because they felt that a heavy metal album should have a pop tune or two that are radio-friendly. Because back then there weren't many stations that would play hard rock. It was just badly organized and we suffered through it."
-Bill Wade

The debut self-titled album released by Canadian rockers Moxy in 1975 became an instant hit for the band, especially in America. In an effort to cash in on that success, the band immediately recorded a follow-up in 1976 simply titled Moxy II. This time the album was recorded in Toronto with Jack Douglas producing. While not as strong musically as the debut, the album contained nine songs written by the band members and was almost a carbon copy of the previous effort except that there was no Tommy Bolin to help out. The album managed to produce a minor hit with the song "Take It or Leave It" and sold well because of strong live appearances and heavy promotion by the label.
-Keith Pettipas, Allmusic

Two songs from the album entered the charts in Canada, "Take It Or Leave It" that reached number 14 and "Cause There's Another" that reached number 16 on the Top 30 on CHUM (AM) in Toronto, and the KISS-FM Texas hits "Midnight Flight" and "One More Heartbreak". The album sold well because of strong live appearances that included tours with Black Sabbath, Boston and Triumph with heavy promotion by the label (Polydor) (Mercury Records).
