May Blitz were a British Columbian hard rock trio who recorded two of the best hard rock albums ever produced by Canadians. The band featured two members from British Columbia who went to England, UK to form the band in 1969. The band members were: Jim Black (Vancouver, BC) lead guitar and lead vocal; Reid Hudson (Victoria, BC) bass guitar, vocals; and Tony Newman (Southampton, Hampshire, England, UK) on drums, vibes, bongos, congas. The album was produced by the Canadians Jim Black and Reid Hudson. The Engineer was Barry Ainsworth. The hideous cover pencil drawing artwork was by Tony Benyon. The Canadian band re-gathered a few years ago in Vancouver and are rehearsing.
The album was released on Paramount Records PAS 5020 (USA) in 1970. It was also released on Vertigo 6360 007 (UK). The album was re-issued on LP on BGO Records LP16 in 1988 and again on Repertoire IMS 7026 in 1994. The album was accompanied by a 45: "Fire Queen b/w Virgin Waters" on Paramount PAA 0075 (USA).
May Blitz released "The Second of May" in 1971 on Vertigo 6360 037 (UK).
Both albums were re-issued together on CD Beat Goes On BGO Records BGOCD153 (UK) in 1992.
