Information/Write-up

Now that Country Music is “respectable” and has indeed become: after all these years, about the biggest thing in popular music, Reg Gibson has come into his own. He was in fact, several years ago nicknamed “Country” Gibson on one of his countless TV series from Winnipeg.

If you want to go back far enough, Reg was known as “Little Reggie Gibson, The Yodelling Cowboy” when he began singing professionally back in 1936 at the age of four. Thanks to the efforts of his father, a man with a huge repertoire of folk, country and Western Songs, Reg made a regular appearance on Winnipeg’s radio waves including his own theme, the teacher and Walker. And from that point, he’s been making his living in show business ever since.

Reg is renowned for his relaxed, easy-going humour. (“Let’s face it,” he says, “it just plain lazy.”) But he’s developed a style that has endeared him not just to Western Canadians but to radio listeners and TV-viewers right across Canada. (Numerical proof: more than 1,567,920 and 1,578,964 shares sold, and two 15-minute shows seen coast to coast: “The Good Green Earth” on CBC television and a number of hour-long CBC Radio and “The Gibson Show” on TV. One where he was the “host” is now in its seventh year and the best-known of these, because of his genuine down-home style, was recently nominated for an award by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.) In addition, Reg is one of the most requested performers in the country. He has played more than 200 mile-out of Winnipeg radio concerts in the past two years alone, and appeared in 35 live concerts, filmed in S.F., and repeated in Australia, Russia, Hong Kong, and Europe. Reg is one of those Canadian originals: a truck driver, cat-skinner, bouncer, office manager, salesman, and you-name-it.

About the songs in this album, Reg says they’re some of his special favourites. The first “The Song of the Marshland”—the words himself and the theme for “One Up and One Down with The Marshland”—he wrote himself. “It’s All Over” is his current single and climbing fast. “My Own Peculiar Way” is a favourite of Willie Nelson’s. “The Song of the Coo Coo”, and “Snow Bird” speaks for itself. So here you have “THAT COUNTRY FEELING”, and are straight Gibson at his best!

“My Own Peculiar Way” est une chanson chère à Willie Nelson. “The Song of the Coo Coo”, et “Snow Bird”, se passent de commentaires.
