Information/Write-up
David Fromager makes his debut on disc with this 10-song collection…but he is by no means a newcomer to the country music scene. Fromager is the son of 70’s recording artist Alfie Fromager, and was influenced musically by his dad’s love of traditional country music -- David Fromager has also spent some ten years in Nashville rubbing elbows with top-drawer songwriters, not the least of which being Dewayne Blackwell of Garth Brooks hit fame – and he has now returned to his roots to operate a music shop in his hometown of Owen Sound, Ontario.
That’s the background – here’s the goods on My Country Side. David Fromager is clearly a gifted songwriter (that Nashville stint has proven helpful) and has written or co-written seven of the ten songs featured here. He also teams up with Dewayne Blackwell on How Can I Change Things Now, which has been pulled as the first single release from the album. Three songs are co-written with wife Donna Fromager, who also shows a special knack in that capacity as well as been a marvelous vocalist.
Among the special moments here are original Fromager tunes like the honky tonk hurtin’ tune Nothin’ To Do (And No One To Do It With), and The Best Tears Of Her Life, a neat hook-filled effort. Listen also for a winner in Home Is Where The Hurt Is.
The Dewayne Blackwell song contributions here include the play-on-words tune Three Car Mirage, the story song Auction (about a rodeo veteran selling-off his memories); and That Close, a lost love ballad.
One of the real surprises here comes from Donna Fromager, when she provides the lead vocals on Your Memory. It’s a vocal delivery filled with passion and pure country feeling…hopefully we’ll be hearing more from this lady in the near future.
David Fromager’s vocal tracks on My Country Side were recorded at studios in Owen Sound, with music tracks cut in Nashville. The Donna Fromager song Your Memory was recorded at Mel Aucoin’s studio in Owen Sound and features Aucoin (piano) and steel guitar legend Bob Lucier.
