Information/Write-up

Here is the first of 16 Chateau releases prior to morphing into the Canatal label. Art Snider's first production of mostly western square dance numbers, as called by Johnny Davidson with Wally Traugott on fiddle, Marj Hames (one of the Hames Sisters) on double bass, and Maurice Beaulieux on banjo. Gordon Lightfoot is at the very centre of the group on the front cover, beside the older gentleman, but he is not acknowledged as performing on this recording (may be a back-up singer). At this time, Gordon was with the group the Singin' Swingin' Eight and they released a single containing 6 tracks (Canatal Records CTC 403 http://mocm.ca/Music/Title.aspx?TitleId=324616). It was also produced by Art Snider. One song, "Church in the Wildwood" featured Gord in a solo section of the song). This album notably includes the rockabilly track "Chateau Rock", which was comped on Early Canadian Rockers Vol 9-10.
-with notes from Robert Williston and Howard Hoover
