Information/Write-up

Born in Port Hilsford, Nova Scotia, Wilf Carter moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1923 when he was 19 years old. He loved the cowboy culture and would often sing at the Calgary Stampede. He worked at the rodeo as an 'ear-downer'. "His job was to grapple the horse around the neck as it ran by and bite down on its ear until it stopped bucking." In 1929, he had a regular radio show called "The Old Timers" on CFCN. In 1937 he purchased a 320 acre ranch near the Spruce Meadows show jumping facility in Calgary, Alberta.
