Information/Write-up

Slide Over Bronson marked the debut of Canadian country singer Marie Babin, a polished young performer with six years of professional experience before the album’s release. The title track opens the record with a lively blend of modern country and honky-tonk flair, while Side B features her strong rendition of a Roy Payne composition.

Babin began performing at fifteen and appeared on radio, TV, and CBC’s Countrytime, developing a clear, engaging vocal style. Working out of Toronto, she toured Canada and the U.S. with her own group, performing across Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, and Tennessee.

The album features top Canadian studio musicians and was produced by Don Turner, who wrote in the liner notes:

“In the search for the girl to do full justice to the song ‘Slide Over Bronson,’ we feel we’ve hit the ultimate … Marie Babin, a fresh-sparkling new talent.”

Slide Over Bronson stands as Babin’s only known album—a well-crafted entry in the Paragon country catalog and a strong example of early 1970s Canadian country music.

Liner notes:
In the search for the girl to do full justice to the song “Slide Over Bronson” we feel we’ve hit the ultimate … Marie Babin, a fresh-sparkling new talent. We hope her first album has captured her vibrant personality and will encourage you to see and enjoy her live on stage and on future albums.

At the age of fifteen, Marie started her professional singing career, and over the past six years has performed at one niter shows, jamborees, after hours clubs, radio and TV shows, including a recent CBC “Countrytime”. These activities, plus several years of road show experience, developed her unique and unusual “Babin Style” of singing and entertaining. Now working out of Toronto, Marie has travelled with her own group to widespread areas of the U.S.A. and Canada including Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana and Tennessee.

Those of us who know the real Marie Babin, her friendliness and her warm sincerity, hope you enjoy this album of songs backed by some of Canada’s top recording musicians.

Slide over world … here comes Marie Babin.
-Don Turner
