For the past ten years Jim Guthrie has been silently following the bell that always rings, chasing the noises he hears and organizing them on various recorders. Through self-discovery and experimentation he has taught himself everything he knows about music, composition, melody and the orchestration of pots and pans. When not working on his own music, Jim is a member of Royal City and collaborator to many.

Jim's critically acclaimed first record 'A Thousand Songs' was chosen by CBC's Brave New Waves in their 2000 Best of Year and was recently re-released and re-packaged in 2002. Jim has played shows with The Dismemberment Plan, Oneida, Oxes, Rainer Maria, Deep Dark United, The Constantines & many others. Jim will be playing SXSW in 2003.

Jim is also a member of Royal City. Royal City's sophomore album 'Alone At The Microphone' recently broke the record for longest-charting record in Canadian campus history. The album was reviewed favorably in Mojo, Pitchforkmedia, Magnet and the band was interviewed in No Depression and featured on the covers of 5 Weeklies across Canada. Royal City has toured extensively and played as far as north of Whitehorse and as far south as Dallas. Along the way, they have spared shows with Sarah Harmer, Red House Painters, Arab Strap, Juliana Hatfield, Crooked Fingers, Songs:Ophia, and countless others.

Jim plays shows with a band (including Mike & Owen of the Hidden Cameras, Simon of Royal City, and Evan of Rockets Red Glare) and alone...with a selfprogrammed Sony Playstation.
