RODEO DAYS
Ivan's rodeo career began with Boy's Steer Riding at local rodeos and his natural ability and hard work payed off with three consecutive wins at the Calgary Stampede from 1959-1961. After this success he moved onto Novice Saddle Bronc Riding, and continued on to win the Canadian Championship in 1965 and 1966. From 1968 to 1980 Ivan’s name appeared in the World Standings five times in the top fifteen Bronc Riders. In 1976 Ivan won the average at the National Finals Rodeo. In 1979 he was awarded the C.N. Woodward Cowboy of the Year Award, and the Guy Weadick Memorial Award at the Calgary Stampede. Following in 2000 Ivan was the Canadian Team Penning Champion.
BECOMING A MUSIC LEGEND
In 1977 Ivan Daines began what would become an incredibly successful music career. He has released a total of eight complete albums, and continues to write many songs about current relevant events. He has released songs to honor the late Princess Diana, acknowledge the Boston Marathon Bombing, and question the looming leadership of Donald Trump. Most recently his music was created to support those impacted by the Fort McMurray Wildfire, unite a province devastated by fire, and help raise the funds required to rebuild a city. His songs, mainly written in the Old Country style, bring people together and provide a window to conversation and nostalgia.
