In New York he first worked at the Left Banke nightclub owned by famous fellow former Chicagoan Dorothy Kilgallen, connecting him to many opportunities that led to work on Broadway, other famous nightclubs, and writing tracks for pop stars like Johnny Mathis. After a summer-long engagement in Thunder Bay, Ontario (then known as twin cities Fort William and Port Arthur) in 1964, he settled in the Lakehead area for a few years and released some cuts on Canadian labels while still touring extensively through North America.
