Biography:
Aquarelle was a 7 person jazz fusion ensemble led by composer/keyboardist Pierre Lescaut. He was joined by Stéphane Morency (guitar), Pierre Bournaki (violin), Jean-Philippe Gélinas (saxophone, flute), Michel De Lisle (bass), André Leclerc (drums), and Anne-Marie Courtemanche (vocals). The band released a mostly instrumental studio album called 'Sous une Arbre' in 1978, as jazz was just starting to gain popularity in Quebec.
The band's energetic, fusion oriented style was well received at home, and led them to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July of that year. This resulted in a very good second LP in 1979 called ' Live à Montreux', featuring all new tracks except one from the previous studio album. Vocalist Courtemanche was replaced by Sharon Ryan (ex-VEBB) By this time. After the group disbanded, Lescaut went on to produce a series of new age records during the 1980's and 1990's.
