Biography:

Sam Lahti and The Colts were a northern Ontario country-rock band who recorded two singles for the Vintage Records label in the early 1970s. With Sam Lahti on lead guitar and vocals, the group blended rock and country elements, crafting a sound that resonated with fans of grassroots music during that era. Though details about their early recordings are scarce, their singles became regional favorites, capturing the spirit of Ontario’s emerging country-rock scene.

After years away from the stage, Sam Lahti and The Colts reunited in 2008 to perform at Music on the Grass II, a fundraiser supporting the Estaire-Wanup Volunteer Fire Department near Sudbury.

Their set was part of a nine-hour grassroots music festival that brought together a variety of local talent, including bluegrass, folk, blues, and classic rock acts. The Colts’ return to the stage marked a special moment for fans and locals alike, reviving the band’s legacy and supporting a worthy cause in their community. Their participation in Music on the Grass II added a layer of nostalgia and authenticity to the festival, proving that decades later, Sam Lahti and The Colts still had the power to connect with audiences.

In recognition of his musical contributions, Sam Lahti was honored at a "Show and Celebration" hosted by the Northern Ontario Country Music Association on May 10, 2014, further cementing his and the band’s impact on the regional music scene.
