Origin: Toronto, Ontario
Biography:

Everest were a Canadian melodic-rock band from Toronto that released a self-titled album on Epic in 1984. The band recorded a second album in 1985 that was ultimately released 10 years after the fact on the German Long Island record label. They won the 1986 Q107 Homegrown contest wherein top prize was studio time at Metalworks and a single on MCA Canada.

Produced by Paul Gross, who took on the same role for the first three Saga albums, the music of Everest was richly symphonic with lush keyboard arrangements in a melodic rock style. While the sound does resemble Saga in many ways I am also reminded of Pallas circa The Wedge, and other UK works from the same period such as Jaguar’s This Time LP. An excellent album from band that should be better known to fans of melodic progressive rock. Special mention should be made of the Geddy Lee mixed bonus track Don’t Know What To Do. The Rush connection continued through the bands career as Alex Lifeson mixed the bands entire second album One Step Away, which also featured a Toto cover, but that’s for another review....
