Big Hank Lionhart and a Fistful of Blues
Origin: Stettler, Alberta - Edmonton, Alberta
Big Hank Lionhart and the other members of A Fist Full of Blues, Duane Smith - Bass, Ken Kirkwood - Guitar, Barrie Nighswander - Guitar, Bill Hobson - Drums and Dennis Meneely - Keyboards have a relationship that goes back to their roots in Stettler, Alberta, having all grown up there in the 60's and 70's. The members of the band also have been and continue to be members of the legendary Edmonton band Tacoy Ryde. They slip into the Blues and R&B as easy as you please and bring along an edge and special sound that make A Fist Full of Blues much more than your average blues band. The combination of their exceptional musicianship and Big Hank's powerful blues voice provide for a collection of tunes that have you up and dancing from the get go. Big Hank's roots go way back, having cut his teeth on the blues with Hot Cottage back in the seventies and with RCA recoding artists Uncle Wiggly's Hot Shoes Blues Band from the West Coast in the 80's.
The opportunity to work together as a band is the fulfillment of years of mutual admiration. The special blend of these seasoned musicians is evident in the live shows and now on their debut CD. They perform with a gut wrenching drive or the caressing of a moment of tenderness that exemplify the blues. Their strong musicianship and vocals make for an exceptional experience for blues fans.
