Biography:

Raised in Richmond Hill, which she still considers her home town, Jackie Richardson began singing in her church choir at seven, and her successful musical career started at the age of sixteen when she joined local quartet "The Tiaras". She later performed at Canadian Forces bases across Canada, the South Pacific, and the Far East. A veteran of the stage, and the small and large screens, Jackie Richardson forged a successful acting career with numerous prestigious roles, and became particularly well known for her part in "Ain't Misbehavin'", which earned her a Dora Mavor Moore Award. Over the years, she has performed and recorded with a who's who in the music industry, and released her own contemporary jazz CD, A Woman's View: Child Eyes. She has helped to promote the James Robinson Johnston Chair in Black Canadian Studies, a worthwhile cause that benefits African Canadians in the field of higher education, history, culture and research. A dazzling performer, Richardson has a powerful and supple voice, and a warm, vibrant stage presence. The music of Jackie Richardson is an experience of soul, in the service of spirit, a profoundly personal synthesis of the remarkable gospel, blues and jazz women she has embodied on stage and screen. Jackie Richardson continues to be honoured with awards such as the 2004 Dora Mavor Moore for Best Female Principal Role in a Musical for Cookin' at the Cookery: The Music & Times of Alberta Hunter, and Gemini, Dora, Juno, Jessie, Betty, Toronto Blues Society, and NAACP Award nominations.

Kim was born Kimberly Ann Richardson the morning of December 22, 1965 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. It became apparent at a very early age that she would pursue a career in the entertainment field, following in the footsteps of her mother, Jackie and aunt Betty.

She started by taking dance lessons at age six. By age seven, she performed in her first school play and by age fourteen she'd moved on to singing in clubs. By the time she reached the age of majority, she had signed a two-year deal with A&M Records. Her first single, "He's My Lover" won her a Juno award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year in 1986. Her second single, "Peek-A-Boo", brought her another Juno for the Best R&B/Soul Recording the following year.

Kim's first show in Montréal was an appearance with her mother, Jackie and aunt, Betty for the 1988 Montréal Jubilation Gospel Choir Christmas concert. She joined the group, The Merlin Factor, the following year. In 1994, the group won a Juno for the Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year and earned a Juno nomination in the same category the year after.

Along the way Kim toured extensively in Canada and in Europe with Richard Séguin, Roch Voisine, Julie Masse, Daniel Seff, Lara Fabian and Bruno Pelletier. In 1997, she traveled to Prague , Czech Republic to record a classical piece composed by Philippe LeDuc entitled The Wings Of Fire with an 85-piece symphony orchestra.

Kim has accompanied such artists as the late Barry White and Robert Palmer, Stevie Wonder, Paul Anka, Lesley Gore, Anggun, Isabelle Boulay, Diane Dufresne, Amanda Marshall, Chris De Burgh, Tina Arena, Gary U.S. Bonds, Gowan, Dan Hill, Céline Dion, David Foster, Murray Head, Nanette Workman, Steve Hill, Luce Dufault, Marjo, Johanne Blouin, Luc de Larochellière, Dan Bigras, Soul Attorneys, France D'Amour, Nancy Martinez and many others.

Kim spent three summers as a regular on Radio Québec's Beau et Chaud with Normand Brathwaite from 1992 to 1994. She made appearances on the DuMaurier Concert Series in Winnipeg , Rita McNeil & Friends and Benmergui in Toronto , Hallelujah (with Kim's mother as hostess) in Halifax and many more in Montréal . She was honoured to participate in the 1990 concert for Nelson Mandela, of which he and the former Mrs. Mandela were in attendance. Other appearances include Fête Nationale '98, '05 and ‘06 in Montréal, Fête Nationale 2001 in Québec City, From Rock to Opera , Cinemashow, Concert for HRH Queen Elizabeth in Gatineau, Canada Day 2001, World Youth Day concert, Le show du Refuge 2001, Francophone Games Opening Ceremonies 2001, Un party pas comme les autres with Mitsou, Tonya Lee Williams' Gospel Jubilee , Governor General Performing Arts Awards Gala '99 and '04 and A Magical Gathering starring Colin Mochrie of Who's Line Is It Anyway? filmed at Disney World Florida.

Most recent performances include Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Gala , Ain't Misbehavin , closing ceremony of FINA world aquatics competition with Gregory Charles, Hit The Road Jack at the Casino de Montréal, Toronto Downtown Jazz Fest – Divas show , Célafête in the Old Port of Montréal, Toronto Blues Society's Womens Blues Revue , Le show du Refuge 2006 , Concert pop tout en piano , Harley-Davidson show 2007 and most recently appearing with Gregory Charles on his I Think of You tour.

On October 4 th 2006, Kim released her long-awaited solo CD entitled Kaleidoscope , co-produced by Nanette Workman. She recently was honoured with a nomination for a Lys Blues award as well as a Sounds of Blackness award. After many years of being in the supporting cast for many artists, she is now looking forward to putting her own show on the road. Stay tuned!

Dès son jeune âge, Kim Richardson débute sa carrière comme actrice et danseuse dans les théâtres de la région de Toronto. À l’adolescence, elle se produit comme chanteuse dans les bars, avec la permission de sa mère, n’ayant pas encore l’âge légal pour y entrer. À 20 ans, en 1986, Kim remporte son premier prix Juno dans la catégorie Interprète le plus prometteur de l’année avec son single He’s My Lover, et l’année suivante en décroche un deuxième dans la catégorie Meilleur enregistrement R&B/Soul pour sa chanson Peek-A-Boo. Le tour du chapeau se complète en 1994, avec un Juno pour le Meilleur album Jazz contemporain, enregistré avec le groupe The Merlin Factor.

Au fil des années, Kim chante aux côtés de plusieurs artistes canadiens de renom comme Céline Dion, Corey Hart, Ginette Reno, Diane Dufresne, Lara Fabian Bruno Pelletier, Roch Voisine, Nanette Workman, Gino Vannelli, ainsi que d’étoiles internationales comme Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Robert Palmer, Murray Head ou encore Michel Fugain. Elle a même ​le privilège de chanter pour la reine Elizabeth II et pour nul autre que Nelson Mandela, lors d’un spectacle donné en son honneur en 1990 à Montréal.

La première émission télé qui nous la fait connaître, Beau et Chaud lui ouvre la route à plusieurs autres : Célébrations, Ti-Mé show, Pour le plaisir, Prière de ne pas envoyer de fleurs, la Fête nationale du Québec à Montréal ainsi que la Fête nationale du Canada, et d’autres. Plus récemment, En direct de l’univers, Belle et Bum, Y’a du monde à messe et elle chante régulièrement l’hymne national pour les Canadiens de Montréal.

En 2006, naît une belle histoire d’amitié musicale avec Grégory Charles, avec qui elle partage la scène comme soliste et choriste à l’émission La cours des grands, Le choc des générations ainsi que dans ses spectacles Music Man, Vintage (dont celui présenté à New York) et présentement Vintage 69 en tournée au Québec.

Très jeune Kim découvrit sa passion pour le théâtre et décrocha quelques rôles au sein diverses comédies musicales à Toronto. Cette passion la suivit jusqu’au Québec, sa terre d’accueil depuis 1988. Depuis, on a notamment pu la voir dans Ain’t Misbehavin, présenté au Centre Segal, ainsi que Hairspray dans le cadre du Festival Juste pour rire. Au cinéma, elle tient le rôle Selma dans le film Funkytown, paru en 2011, et on pourra la voir bientôt dans un nouveau film intitulé Hall, dont la sortie n’est pas encore connue.

La discographie de Kim Richardson à titre de choriste se chiffre à un impressionnant 500 albums! Étant très impliquée comme choriste auprès de plusieurs artiste depuis tant d’années, ce n’est qu’en 2006 que le public peut enfin apprécier son oeuvre de soliste avec un premier disque intitulé Kaléidoscope. En 2011, Kim nous offre Mes amours, un deuxième album entièrement en français avec une touche jazz.

Encore à ce jour, Kim prête sa voix à plusieurs formations, évènements et spectacles. On peut d’ailleurs l’entendre au Dièse Onze tous les dimanches en formule jazz.
