Biography:
Born in Winnipeg, James was an arranger and featured guitarist on âthe Tommy Hunter Showâ. He was the featured guitar soloist on three ABC television mini-series: âLonesome Doveâ, âBuffalo Girlsâ and âStreets of Laredoâ.
One of the Four Masters, James was the featured guitar soloist on the classical album âVignettes in Musicâ for Duke Street Records. He produced, arranged, and played on albums for Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Hagood Hardy, Frank Mills, Brent Carver and Rita MacNeil and orchestrated Charlottetown Festivalâs production of âEmilyâ. In addition, he scored and conducted the Emmy award winning series, âPortrait of Americaâ.
James Pirie worked on numerous film scores as arranger and orchestrator. He won an Emmy for composing, orchestrating and conducting the ABC tv film âAlaska, Story of a Dreamâ, and a Clio for Best International Score for the commercial, âDiscovery Trainâ.
As a renowned studio musician, James Pirie orchestrated and been the featured guitarist on more than 200 international commercial advertisements.
He was an Emmy-award winner for composing, orchestrating and conducting the ABC tv film âAlaska, Story of a Dreamâ.
