Information/Write-up
Time Travel takes us on a trip that delves in journeys of the heart, our time on the planet, contact in the universe, ancient myths, legends and an oddly confused ghost.
It is an exciting, explorative (musically and thematically) and deeply evocative album that will be sure to move the listener on many levels. Gallant’s rich vocals are brought to the fore on this recording and the often lush and full arrangements provide the ideal setting for them to shine. The album features the song "Sequoia" a tribute to the worlds largest and oldest trees. Gallant wrote the song after spending time in an old growth forest and said,’ Being among these trees, it felt like you could experience a profound connection to the planet. It was almost magical and the experience was such that it seemed if you listened hard enough, you might learn something about time itself and why we are here.’ He and partner Patricia Richard travelled to the Sierra Nevada in California just before covid hit to film a video for the song. ‘Nothing prepared me for singing this song among these elders of the planet at six in the morning, with only Patricia and the cameraman present… it was deeply moving.’ said Gallant.
The new album features special guests Rose Cousins, Mary Jane Lamond, Jenn Grant, The Fretless, & the Atlantic String Machine. The album has appeared on a Top Ten Albums of the year by a panel of Canadian music reviewers and won a Canadian Folk Music Award. His previous two live albums both won national awards and several East Coast Music Awards including Album of the Year and 2017 Entertainer of the Year.
He has just released his first Christmas album of original tunes in 2021, called Christmas Day on Planet Earth, featuring the song of the same name and the amazing accapella group from Zimbabwe, Black Umfulosi.
