Information/Write-up

Noticeably rare picture sleeve and single. "Visions of Vanessa" starts out sounding a little like Billy Thorpe's Children Of The Sun, but then takes a very British sounding turn right off the top, the band demonstrates how tight they really are, a memorable and at times, dramatic listen. The B-side is a bit of an oddity, musically it's identical to the A-side except that the vocal is replaced by Genius Garnet Amplifiers founder Garnet Gillies doing some unique and memorable trombone playing (imagine if Van Morrison played the Trombone, that should give you some idea as to how it sounds, very emotive). It sounds odd but actually works quite nicely. Gillies is not only one of the main reasons that Winnipeg had a thriving local music scene for the last half century (up until the time of his passing last Christmas), but also a key ingredient in the fat sustained sound of many local success stories including The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive and many others from outside our borders including Big Sugar's Gordie Johnson who's new band "Grady" uses the distinctive Garnet Amp's stylized G font to demonstrate their respect for Gar and the Garnet Amplifiers legacy. Gar is also given a production credit on both sides of this release.
