Liner notes
STEP DANCING! It’s an art of stamina, physical fitness and concentration, or at least that’s the way it seems to me. If you’ve never seen a pro-stepper in action, well then here’s the next best thing! It’s a recording of some high stepping to some good ole toe tapping fiddle tunes.
The main ingredients are two of the finest young ladies to ever dance their way to the top. I’m speaking of WENDY THOMPSON and DEBBIE McWATTY both hailing from the village area of KINBURN, ONTARIO in Canada’s step dancing capital, the Ottawa Valley.
Both girls are champions in their own right having competed in many and varied competitions. Following is a list of just a few of their many accomplishments.
CENTRAL CANADIAN OPEN CHAMPION — 1973 & 1974 WENDY THOMPSON
CENTRAL CANADIAN OPEN RUNNER UP — 1973 & 1974 DEBBIE McWATTY
CENTRAL CANADIAN OPEN CHAMPION — 1972 DEBBIE McWATTY
CENTRAL CANADIAN 18 & UNDER CHAMPION 1972 WENDY THOMPSON
GLENGARY OPEN CHAMPION — 1972 & 1973 DEBBIE McWATTY
CENTRAL CANADIAN 12 & UNDER CHAMP. 1971 WENDY THOMPSON
That’s impressive!
Eighteen year old DEBBIE McWATTY is a fine teacher of dancing herself, and has many young and talented students in her home area. Her own knowledge of dancing and training came from a fine Ottawa Valley instructor by the name of Buster Brown.
Sixteen year old WENDY THOMPSON was taught her fancy footwork by the famous Gilles Roy of Ottawa. In 1971 Wendy was given a privilaged opportunity and that was to appear on the now late famous DON MESSER’S JUBILEE T.V. show. A great thrill for her I would imagine.
I could probably write many more lines about these fine talented girls but the album cover does not have enough space. So. I’ll just say buy one for yourself and listen to the fantastic rhythmic patterns of beats that these two gals can tap out with their feet to the traditional sound of the fiddle. Together the two can’t loose and are truly Canadian!
Signed,
A great fan of Canadian Step Dancing
CHUCK JOYCE
