John Durelle was born in 1941 in the tiny fishing village of Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick. After a few years in the army, he moved to Montreal, where he met Ronnie Prophet and performed with Charlie Louvin, Mack Wiseman and other great performers. He moved back to New Brunswick to record one album.
