Elaine Jarvis sang country music out of Brampton, Ontario, in the 1980s, fronting her own Generation Band and recording for Bel Air Records. She came out of Willis Jarvis and the Generation Gap, a Brampton band that rehearsed in the Jarvis family rec room and played around town most weekends. She sang with them as a guest vocalist around 1980. Bel Air was a small Brampton label run by Bob Cousins, a promoter with a taste for stunts who once pushed a Dale Bradley single called 'I Lobster But Never Flounder' by handing out a lobster trap.
In the spring of 1984 she appeared on Search for the Stars, the CBC television talent series hosted by Peter Pringle. Bel Air had just issued her single 'Lovin' On Borrowed Time', written by Larry Boone and Eric Thorson, on BA 213. That June she played a week at the Cloverleaf Hotel, followed by three nights at the New Shamrock in Toronto, and on July 1 she headlined Brampton's Canada Day celebration, where organizers expected more than 20,000 people. Through the fall she worked 'Lovin' On Borrowed Time' to country radio station by station, including a stop at CJTN in Trenton with announcer Walt Latham.
In February 1985 Jarvis and the Generation Band took the act to Western Canada. On February 25, while on that tour, they walked into a fundraiser for the Academy of Country Music Entertainment at the Rodeo Club in Edmonton's Kingsway Inn and played an unscheduled set. The set was arranged by Judy Dalgliesh of Encore Productions and club host Ernie Wolver.
Back home, she was again at the top of the Canada Day bill in 1985, sharing the headline at Chinguacousy Park with Elvis tribute performer Billy Cann. Bel Air put the crowd at close to 30,000. All eleven acts on the bill came from Bel Air or its sister company, Alway Management. Dave Ferri of Orchard Studio ran the sound, and guitarist Wendell Ferguson led the band as musical director.
Ferguson also produced her next Bel Air single, 'Our Love', recorded and mixed at Orchard Studios in Norval, Ontario, with Cousins as executive producer. The A-side came from Dale Jackson and Bobby Keel. For the flip, 'Stirrin' Up Feelings', she turned to the Nashville team of Jerry Foster and Bill Rice.
