Singer and guitarist Dave Coggins and multi-instrumentalist Clayton Lewis started Bonded Stock in southwestern Nova Scotia in 1973. The band became a fixture of the region's dances and country bars, and in June 2023 it marked 50 years with a concert on the promenade in Digby. The Municipality of Clare council voted congratulatory certificates to Coggins and the band for the milestone.
Coggins and Lewis wrote both songs here, and the band cut them at Solar Audio and Recording in Dartmouth for its album Way Before My Time. The title song went out to country radio and was on the chart at CJFX in Antigonish by March 1979. It became one of the band's best-known songs, along with its other single, 'Nova Scotia Sky' backed with 'Catfish John'.
The two songs were later issued on Solar Records.
