Information/Write-up

This is a rare Vancouver-area single produced by Jerry Adolphe, a highly regarded drummer and session musician whose career spans rock, blues, R&B, and roots music. Raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Adolphe learned to read music from his father, a military drumming instructor and jazz musician, and was already performing professionally by his early teens.

During the 1970s, Adolphe gained extensive experience playing the nightclub circuit in Calgary, Alberta, before relocating to Los Angeles in 1977, where he further developed his skills through private study with leading session drummers, including Jim Keltner and John Guerin. He moved to Vancouver in 1980, quickly becoming active on the city’s R&B and club scene, working with artists such as Jim Byrnes and other prominent local musicians.

Produced in 1981, this single documents Adolphe’s early Vancouver period, just as he was establishing himself within the city’s recording community. Shortly thereafter, he became involved with the studio-based band Prototype, whose single “Video Kids” received Canadian radio attention, and soon after joined Bill Henderson and Chilliwack, beginning a long association with one of Vancouver’s most successful rock bands.
