Information/Write-up
A Museum of Canadian Music Exclusive — presented in close collaboration with Barry Stagg, this rare Malachi album is made available to the public for the very first time. Unheard anywhere until now and preserved directly from the artist’s own archives, it stands as a long-hidden document of Stagg’s deeply personal, spiritually charged songwriting. Drawn from years of private work and creative clarity, the recording captures Malachi at his most reflective and lyrical, weaving poetry, social conscience, and inner revelation into one of his most intimate musical statements.
Barry Stagg (Malachi)
Barry Stagg’s writings traverse the spectrum of human experience, from the realm of childhood innocence to the adult world, so often beset with seemingly insurmountable cares and indifference to the humanity around it. The unique blending of his poetic lyrics and music mirrors for us the composer’s revelations found in his inner journey toward self discovery. In exploring both familiar and innovative themes, his works, beautifully composed, have been so shaped as to involve you, the listener, in his exciting pilgrimage. The name, Malachi, or “my messenger” under which the composer now writes, is not chosen as a pseudonym but as a description of the messages inherent within the content of the composer’s work. Just as the writings of the early biblical prophet concerns itself with religious and social injustices, the need for the acceptance and understanding of the oneness of man and the interrelationship of all people, so, too, do we find ourselves, through the writer’s efforts, reawakening to the spiritual spark that lies within each of us.
