Born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mike Harris has had fiddle music in his heart from early childhood. After practicing for only three years in the basement of his home, Mike entered a Fiddle Contest against some of the best Old Time Fiddlers in Canada and won hands down. It was then that Mike decided to become a professional musician.

Mike began his travels all over the world, and ended up by making quite a name for himself.

I first met Mike in Toronto in 1953, while working in the area with my husband, Hal Willis, and was quite impressed by his versatility with the fiddle. He has a repertoire in the thousands — from the Canadian fiddle tunes to the Old South — and can play you hundreds of songs native of the Old South and capture the distinctive feeling of both.

I am proud to recognize Mike not only as a fine Old Time Fiddler, but as a very close friend, and it gives me great pleasure to have this opportunity of writing the liner notes to the album that is guaranteed to bring its listeners hours of pleasure.
