Information/Write-up

Ken and Amy Laderoute were more than just musical collaborators—they were (and still are) partners in life and art. The husband-and-wife duo recorded their sole album in 1983, a self-produced, synth-driven reflection of love, unity, and the early ’80s DIY spirit. Released privately in Canada under the group name Oui, the record quietly captured a moment in time, blending romantic optimism with sleek electronic textures and heartfelt songwriting.

Ken, a multi-instrumentalist, handled vocals, guitars, bass, drum programming, writing, arranging, and production. Amy contributed vocals and shimmering synthesizer textures that brought warmth and depth to the project. The album was recorded and mixed at Accusonic Studios in Toronto, engineered by Paul Gallienne, with photography by Will Santillo and styling by Lisa Brown and Shirley Lang. It was dedicated to a friend, Douglas Reid—a nod to the tight-knit, independent nature of the record’s creation.

For decades, Oui remained a hidden gem. Then, years later, Tel Aviv-based DJ and producer Elado stumbled upon the record, fell in love with its sincerity and sound, and set out to remix it for the modern dancefloor. That meant tracking down the elusive couple, who were still together and celebrating 40 years of marriage—the same age as their enduring music. With their blessing, Elado remixed “Circle of Love” into a bold disco banger, complete with arpeggiated synths and club-ready polish. “You Make Me High,” a sentimental synth-pop cut from the original LP, also reappeared as part of the reissue.

Now rediscovered and supported by tastemakers like Gerd Jansen and Hunee, Oui has come full circle—a private love letter turned public celebration. It’s a testament to enduring partnership, both in music and marriage, and a joyful reminder that great music—and great love—never go out of style.
