Lyrics:

Dream Fire
I rode upon a pale horse that strangest night of nights.
I'd come to hear the wolves moan and watch the northern lights.
Upon the pure and driven snow, a blanket for the land
I saw the beams of moonlight glow, I felt God’s gentle hand

The evergreen forest stood majestic and serene
Against the shimmering mountains, piece of heaven have I seen
Then suddenly my horse drew up, a coyote crossed my path
I sat and watched him watching me, then came his crazy laugh

But what, what now did I behold in disbelief and shock
The stupefying sound I heard as he began to talk
“Get out, get out destructive one,” he yelled through bloodshot eyes
You who’ve caused the lakes to sour and made the sun to rise

“The sun to what?” I starkly stared but the coyote backed away
I turned my gaze and shook my head, “It’s hours till the day,”
Then instantly my throat went dry, the truth crept in my spine
That was no coyote I had seen but a messenger, ‘divine’

In perfect, silent fear I blinked, then came the blinding flash
The coyote’s words burned in my brain as came a mighty crash
My eyes beheld the sun ablaze upon the frozen snow
It stood amid the forest fair, the land that I love so

In disbelief I watched the wrath as cinders filled the air
I saw the flaming holocaust that laid the mountains bare
I saw the lakes and rivers boil and die away to steam
The burning ball was everywhere, I wished it was a dream

“Get away,” I thought but my horse was gone, my legs had turned to jell
I bleakly stood and faced the wind, the horrid wind of hell
The forbidden fruit of knowledge did exact its final fee
For all the perilous, poisonous, fruit that’s eaten of the tree

I screamed, “oh God, oh God, oh God, my God what have I done”
The earth was reeling like a drunk, then I heard, “Wake up my son”
I gasped and bolted up in bed, my heart still skipping beats
While my father held my trembling hands through twisted, soaking sheets

“It’s just a dream, a dream,” he said, “for you’re safe at home with me”
Relief began to flood my head as I joined reality
My heart rejoiced; it was not real, for nothing’s changed at all…
Then I slowly lay back on the bed and stared upon the wall…

Old House

Old house, there you stand,
Forgotten mark upon the land—
My family’s hopes, my family’s dreams—
All wasted now, at least that’s how it seems...to me.

Your sagging windows seem to cry;
You were alive once, now you die,
The souls you held—scattered, crumbs upon the sea.
House: time has had its way with you and me...hasn’t it?

What a happy place you were back then;
I had no notion it would end.
You warmed us, and kept the rain from coming through;
Now, no one gives a damn for you...except me.

I was the little one...remember me?
The one the others called “Lee-Lee.”
What...did you answer, did you say “yes”?
It’s just—the wind in your cracks...I guess.

Your halls shall never ring with joy again,
So I’ll leave you now, with your friends—the wind and rain;
Best I lock your latch and throw away the key,
Lest I toss a match to end your misery...and mine, Old House.
