Romance and rhythm served up as Cocktail - A refreshing concoction by The Don Baker Trio:
The versatile Hammond organ long has been a fixture in smart spots all across the land, but seldom has its variety of sounds been explored by talent the likes of Don Baker’s. In this, his first Hammond album, Don is augmented with the sound of piano, celeste, and drums, forming the Don Baker Trio, the group Don has used for many years in club engagements. With Don on this album are Joe Samuels on piano and celeste and Milt Holland alternating with Irv Cottler on the drums. The Trio lends an inventive touch to a dozen favorites —some familiar tunes, Latin rhythms, novelties, and a few choice but seldom-heard songs of yesteryear. Each is given a fresh, soundful treatment by the Trio. It’s a delightful set of musical refreshment, served up as “Cocktail Hammond’.
Don Baker’s seven-year tenure in Las Vegas clubs amply demonstrates that his is a lasting talent. In a town where rapid turnover of talent is the rule, Don has become a Las Vegas institution, entertaining at the same stands year in and year out.
Hammond aficionados have long recognized Don Baker as a true virtuoso of the theatre pipe organ, also. In another Capitol stereo album, Medley Time, Don is featured at the famed Robert Morton pipe organ.
