Insight

Rick Skol started the band "Spunker" in 1978, winning Toronto's CFTR Radio Talent Search in 1980 with the song "Stop". The win included recording sessions at the famed "Eastern Sound Studio" on Yorkville Avenue, along with radio airplay, and a performace on Global TV in 1981. The band then focused on recording several more songs and submitting them to multiple record companies over the next year. Sadly, the band was unable to secure a recording contract and the members decided to go their own way. But before they did, they decided to do a farewell 'tour' of Toronto's Queen St. bars and similar venues in the summer of 1982, under the name "Spunker" and alternatively, "Neotone". They played about 20 shows in 2 months, including The Beverley, Queen St. Tavern, The (Tara)Turning Point and Larry's Hideaway. Now in 2024, due to popular interest since the songs recently appeared on Youtube, Rick Skol plans to release the band's first lp on vinyl in the near future.
