Merle Haggard. Born April 6, 1937 in Oildale California. My musical hero, a songwriter singer that forever changed the landscape of Country Music starting in the 1960s. Merle had a way of speaking to the common man. Decades later his words still reach into our hearts and let us know we are not alone.
In 1974 Merle’s song ‘Movin’ On’ was the theme song for a TV show of the same name. The song was so catchy I found myself singing it while doing chores on the farm. A 14 year old Me, thought I sounded pretty good singing that song. That turned out to be a defining moment that shaped who I would become in life. That was the moment I discovered I had a voice and I would pursue music as a career because of it.
The music business has certainly had its ups and downs but I wouldn’t wish away one minute of it. The experiences, the friends and the scars. I love them all. To Country Music… Thank you for leaving me… ‘Just A Little Haggard”.
