Close To Your Love b/w Apples and Wine

Produced in L.A. studio One Step Up, Close To Your Love caught the label by surprise when Mahonin dropped in to Moffat station CKLG in Vancouver on his way back from L.A.

Mahonin played the cut on acetate to music director Don Stevens, who made a tape copy. Unbeknownst to Mahonin, by the time he got back to Calgary, CKLG had instantly added the single, causing the label quite a scurry.

"We didn't want an instant add - the record wasn't even manufactured yet", recalls Mahonin. "We had to do a rush order with Quality Records for product, and in the meantime fire out tapes to other stations that were miffed at us that LG got 'preferential treatment'. Usually you had to beg to get a record played - and here we were begging them not to play it - just yet".

All worked out in the end, but the label felt the 'instant add' actually hurt sales in the long run by not being as prepared with product demand for the airplay that ensued.
