Insight

It’s not that surprising to see a release of a live album by Canadian singer/songwriter Leeroy Stagger and his band The Wildflowers after he had released two studio albums on Blue Rose and after he was touring Germany in fall of 2009. For those who had been attending one of the shows this 2 CD live set is a great memory and for most of those who haven’t been there it is the best chance to hear what they have missed: An artist whose performance is based on good old rock’n roll, who is absolutely consistent with himself, his musicians and his songs. He is demonstrating all this with his authority, passion and his down-to-earth personality. Live At The Red River Saloon was recorded on October 22, 2009 in Heilbronn, Germany. The small but nice music pub in the hometown of Blue Rose Records was hosting acts of the label not for the first time. Core audience, the special live atmosphere, Blue Rose comparable music, likable bands – the result is always an unforgotten, blissful evening. Stagger came with a bunch of own songs from Canada, and with his fabulous band he brought a breeze of the wide prairie to South Germany, and the people at the Red River Saloon loved it. Leeroy Stagger & The Wildflowers is an electric rocking four-piece band who stands deep in the Heartland music. Next to the bandleader is Kevin Kane, an experienced guitar player who was playing with a very popular band in Canada called the Grapes Of Wrath in the early 1990s. He also started a solo career and played with country icon Neko Case. Tyson Maiko on bass and Ian Browne on drums completed the band. On two CDs we get exactly those 20 songs the band played that night. The majority of the tracks is taken from the Blue Rose album Everything Is Real and but there are also gems from other Stagger albums like Beautiful House (2005) and Depression River (2007) as well as cover versions of “Atlantic City” (Bruce Springsteen) and “Swingin’” (Tom Petty). buy the album here: http://rebeltonerecords.bigcartel.com/product/leeroy-stagger-and-the-wildflowers-live-at-the-red-river-saloon
