Information/Write-up
Mini bio: Born on Feb. 3, 1949 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Male rock & roll singer. In 1964 he released Unless You Care on Canadian Arc label which was picked up for distribution in the U.S. by Tollie Records. Married country singer Laurel Ward in 1970. In 1972, he was a member of the original Dr. Music, and a regular on CTV's After Four show.
Terry Black released several singles on the Canadian Arc label between 1964 and 1966 which were Unless You Care (1964) Billboard #99, Poor Little Fool (1964), Only Sixteen (1965, which charted at #2 on Vancouver radio station CFUN), Say It Again (1965, CFUN #19), Little Liar (1966, CFUN #4), Say It Again (1965, CFUN #19), his excellent cover of Russ Hamilton's 1957 hit Rainbow (1965), Only 16 (1965), Baby's Gone (1966) and Wishing Star (1966)
Little Liar is a melodic mid-tempo teen angst song with nice keyboards, strummed guitar, percolating bass, lively drumming, excellent vocals from Terry Black and a good guitar solo, and is arguably one of his best releases.
Ordinary Girl is an excellent teen wrong-side-of-town type song with really nice strummed guitar, light drumming, bass and velvet smooth melodic vocals from Terry Black with a short but nice keyboard solo.
Both sides produced by legendary record producer Lou Adler for Dunhill Productions in the USA.
Canadian first issue, as far as we can determine there was no equivalent release on the American Dunhill record label. However, Dunhill did release Ordinary Girl b/w Baby's Gone on Dunhill 4046 in 1966 with Ordinary Girl as the A side.
Billboard number: Non charted. Little Liar reached #4 in 1965 on Vancouver radio station CFUN.
