Liner notes
It’s seven o’clock in the morning. The city is rubbing sleep from its eyes; breakfasts are being served; and the “nine-to-five” people are preparing for a day’s work.

In Toronto’s east end a tired, blonde-haired songstress nibbles at a donut and sips a cup of coffee while she listens to a little soul music — COUNTRY SOUL.

Forty-eight hours earlier, she had eaten breakfast like all the other “nine-to-five” people. She had spent that morning at CFGM radio where she received a gold plaque award for her 1971 hit single, “The Moods of My Man”, from Dave Johnson. By late afternoon she concluded a promotional meeting with her record producer, regarding the new album. Following her club engagement that night she was off to the recording studio for a six-hour session. There was no sleeping time on the agenda.

Another radio interview and the taping of a television show followed that session. Somewhere in between, Honey West managed to get four hours sleep. After the show that night, she again went directly to the studio.

It’s been a long night. Ashtrays are piled high with cigarettes; and empty coffee cups decorate the studio. The machines stop; instruments are put away; and tired, smiling faces look homeward.

You’ve just read the partial history of an album in the making. This is that finished product. It is Honey’s fifth and undoubtedly her finest.

Most of the vocal material is Canadian written. Honey has another winner in COUNTRY SOUL — a tune written by Arlene Gordon and Lyn Jones. Another song-writing team, Terry Carisse and Bruce Rawlins, penned “Brotherhood”. Wayne Rostad wrote “Teach Me The Meaning of Mercy”. Besides the Canadian material the vocal and instrumental efforts on “You Gave Me A Mountain” and Carol King’s “Sweet Seasons” are outstanding.

A lot of time has been donated to this album. You’ve just added two minutes more by being interested enough to read the latest on Canada’s “Country Lady”.

Everything left unsaid is waiting for you at home.
